About Gyre Bodyworks

My name is Michele Stokes and I am the owner/operator of Gyre Bodyworks. I received my Massage Therapy license from East West College of the Healing Arts.
I have been a Massage Therapists for over 18 years and have worked in a number of capacities, including Wellness clinics, Spas, Chiropractic offices, Health clubs, private practice, and on-site chair massage.

I am well versed in a wide variety of Massage techniques, including Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports, Pregnancy, Trigger Point, Reflexology, Reiki, and Hot-Stone. To me, the most important aspect of therapeutic treatment is listening to and observing clients in order to anticipate individual needs and sensitivities. I also incorporate comfort, warmth, and aromatherapy into each massage treatment I perform.

I am also an Esthetician with 10 years experience. As an Esthetician, I am knowledgeable with natural skin care, facial waxing, and body treatments.

I have, at several times, taught in the academic world, focusing on massage treatment, spa treatment, fitness programming, nutrition, and the sciences, including anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and pathology.

I became interested in massage, bodywork, and movement therapies during my studies in modern dance, ballet, and ethnic dance at the University of Oregon. I have had my own non-profit dance company for over 7 years and have taught dance and movement and exercises classes, including Yoga and Pilates for the last 19 years. For well over 10 years now, I have studies a wide variety of Yoga techniques. Some of which include Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Yin, and Therapeutic Yoga.

To prepare me for my lifelong pursuit toward health and wellness, I have studied Yoga with some excellent teachers at some great studios including Holiday’s Health and Fitness, Yoga Bhoga, Yoga Union, Flow and Yogafit trainings and workshops. I studied Pilates while receiving my Dance degree. My Pilates training has included training with Stott, IWWA, and 24 hour fitness. I have been a certified member of the American Council on Exercise for the past 18 years, as well as holding multiple certifications with the YMCA , including Fitness Specialist, Group Exercise, and strength and conditioning. I have a passion in nutrition, herbs, and food preparation, and am always hungry to continue my studies and learn new things.
